happy chinese new year...

as the chinese new year falls on a different date every year, the question on everybody's mind is when is chinese new year 2011?  this year it falls on february 3.  the chinese new year is celebrated as the symbol of spring's celebration and this year it is the year of the rabbit!

here are a few chinese traditions...
on the eve of chinese new year, families gather for a dinner.  feasting on dishes with pig, duck, chicken and sweet goodness.
the traditional chinese calendar ends with a lantern festival which is on the 15th day. nowadays, paper lanterns are displayed to add a festive touch to home and businesses celebrating the start of the lunar new year.  this is evident in most chinese-american communities.
children receive candy and money in red paper envelopes. of course,  the one thing my kids look forward to about chinese new year!
being that hubby is chinese-american, we'll do a dinner with a couple of chinese dishes within the 15 days and of course, give the kids their red envelopes!

happy chinese new year & happy friday friends!
