my new camera bag...

i have been obsessing about getting a fun, stylish and functional camera bag.  small burst had a post on her blog about her wanting a new camera bag and she posted a few different companies.     my s-i-l tweeted me asking me if i was looking for a camera bag and she gave me the same recommendations that small burst had posted about.  funny thing is, i've already had my eye on the same ones!  here they are...

price tag:  $199.00

price tag: $164.99
as much as i loved both of them it was way, way over the budget and since i tire of bags fairly quickly i wasn't going to sink $200 on one.  back in december when the family purchased my nikon it came with a camera bag but i didn't use it.  well, the inside of this bag had removable pads and right then i had a d.i.y. moment.  i thought what if i just find an inexpensive bag and used the paddings from this camera bag? hummmm....
since that idea came to mind a few weeks ago i have been on the hunt for something suitable.  something that fit my requirements of fun, stylish and functional. today i found this at kohl's...

and it was perfect!  the perfect size, style and color on sale for 50% off plus i had a 15% off coupon.  the total price for this purchase $25.00.  then i bought some stick on velcro strips from the fabric store for $2.50.

i added it to the back of the velcro that was already on all of the padding and i stuck it into my newly purchased bag.
and voila!  i now have my fun, stylish & functional make-shift camera bag which cost me less than $28.00 dollars!  woot! woot!  i know it's not a kelly moore or an epiphanie but it's good enough for me!

i heart my new camera bag and even my kids were impressed with what i came up with!
it is quite loveLee, don't you think?

this is genius!
i, too, have been looking for a bag since like forever-even before i bought my camera. i've been using my film camera bag--which i don't like because it has all the extra strappies for the films--and it sucks. i put that into another bag--that i also don't like-that i got from Guatemala but it's so flimsy it drives me nuts and the vintage messenger i want is like $200.
thanks so much for posting this!
sorry for the long post lol

I really wanted one of those Epiphanie bags too, but couldn't believe how expensive they were! I thought about doing the same thing you did but then I found a great Lowepro messenger bag that works perfect to keep my journal, wallet, camera, a small water bottle and a novel in, for 100$. Since I'm still on the hunt for something stylish, I'm going to take your advice. Thanks for the great post.

So love-lee :) What a great idea. I've been eyeing those bags too but way over my budget. Might have to make a visit to Kohls.

I so need a prettier camera bag, but I can't spend all that money. I've been debated sewing one up myself, but haven't taken the plunge on that one yet.

Found you through a comment on flickr and I wanted to say what a great idea this is!! It's hard to find a pretty camera bag that isn't an arm and a leg in cost. Thanks so much for your creativity!

Wow, that's a great idea! I am saving up for my first DSLR, a Nikon D5000, and I have also been looking at Epiphanie bags, though I really didn't want to spend that much for a bag. Now I'll be looking for a cute bag so when I get my camera, I can do this myself! Thanks for the inspiration! :)

You did a great job at using your noggin' to come up with something just as good looking and effective as a Kelly Moore bag... Good for you!
