they left...

my parents and auntie left this morning. sigh.  my guy and i drove them at 5:30 a.m.. to catch an 8:00 a.m. flight back to california. our guest bathroom and bedroom sure has been put to good use this past month with family coming and going.  of course the day was filled with cleaning the guest bedroom and bathroom.

and of course there were towels and sheets that were used by the guests that needed to be laundered. and my girly gets her bedroom and bed back because she gave up her room for my auntie to stay in.  we surely will miss a house full of guests it's been busy but a boat load of fun.  however, there's still more fun to be had...summer is not over yet and i'm still pondering on a decision i need to decide tomorrow....to go or not to go?...hummm....

oh, and if you haven't entered my little giveaway please do so here : ).

summer footwear...

day 178 flickr project365
i'm a casual kind of girl and during the summer i prefer to wear skirts and dresses over shorts and i live in my flip flops and strappy sandals!
these are my favorite strappy flats that i bought from forever 21 for $7.50!
and i think i have every color of the old navy 2 for $5.00 flip flops!
and my most favorite summer wear are my rainbows!  i can walk everywhere and anywhere in these babies!
what's your favorite summer footwear?

it's not as good as lola's...

when my mom is in town visiting she will cook the filipino dishes that all of her eight grandchildren love.  mine and my sister's version of filipino cooking just doesn't compare to lola's!  tonight she made  sinigang a soup or stew known for it's sour flavor and she also made a noodle dish which is called pancit.  pancit is a quick cooked noodle dish that is one of the quintessential meals of filipino cuisine.  there are many different kinds of pancit and you will find pancit at most, if not all, at every filipino family gathering.  the most comon variety is pancit bihon, with rice vermicelli noodles mixed with meat and veggies.
below is a similiar recipe that i found on the internet because when you ask any filipino mom for a recipe there's never any measurements.  "oh, just a little of this and some of that" is what my mom and tita's (aunties) always tell me.

4 to 6 servings-

rice sticks/vermicelli noodles 1 (8 ounce) package

oil-- 3 tbsp
onion, sliced thinly 1
garlic, minced 2-3 cloves
cabbage, chopped 1/4 to 1/2 head
carrots, grated or julienne 2 ea
chicken breast, sliced/shredded 1 pound
chicken broth, 2 cups
salt and pepper to taste
lemons or kalaminsi limes, cut into wedges

1.  add the noodles to a large bowl and pour hot water over them to cover.  let soak for about 15 minutes, then drain and set aside.
2.  heat the oil in a wok or large pot over medium-high flame.  add the onions and garlic and stir fry until the onions just begin to turn translucent, 2 to 3 minutes.  add the cabbage and carrots and stir fry for another 2 to 3 minutes.  finally add the chicken breast and stir fry for another 2 to 3 minutes.
3.  pour in the broth, soy sauce, salt and pepper and reduce heat to medium-low.  simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes.
4.  remove the wok or pot from heat and add the soaked rice noodels.  toss the noodles with the ingredients to coat them with sauce and adjust seasoning.  serve in bowls with lemon or lime wedges to squeeze over the top.

that's it!  pretty easy, peasy, lemon squeezy!  i've made it a few times before but i have to admit hands down as the grandkids say "it's not as good as lola's!" and it will never be.

bon appetit!

billy graham's childhood home...

day 175 flickr project365
i can't believe that my card reader isn't working, therefore, i can't upload my picture/s of the day.  however, i can tell you that it would have been pictures of the billy graham library located here in charlotte, nc.  my parents and aunt are still in town so we took them there since my aunt had never been.  most of the pictures i took were of billy graham's beautifully decorated childhood home.  i'm hoping that once i get this card reader to work i can upload them so you can also see how super cute it is.

update...it wasn't my card reader but it was my memory card that got corrupted.  auuuggghhh!  thankfully, ritz camera has a recovery system where they can recover the files from a corrupted memory card.  thank goodness but the downside is i have to pay for the service. well, since i can't post the pictures i took on my camera here's a picture that i took on my dad's camera of billy graham's childhood home.
my mom and dad : )

williamsburg

day 174 flickr project365
we left new jersey this morning continuing our trip towards home.  an hour into our drive i realized i left nikky's battery and charger at the hotel. auuughhh! so my pictures for today were taken with my aunts camera.
we were on the road for a very good part of the day.  about 7 hours or so and arrived at williamsburg, virginia at 5 p.m..

we headed to the colonial williamsburg historic area to walk around but as soon as we got there we got caught in a little summer downpour.  we ended up soaking wet so we headed to the hotel and will be heading back tomorrow morning for a few hours before we do our last 6 hour leg of our road trip.  destination...home!

on our way home...

day 173 flickr project365
we are making our way back home today. i anticipated this trip to be about 10 days but i'm glad we can get home sooner rather than later.  missing my miss bling and mr. L but we've got another stop or two to make along the way before we arrive home.
and since it took 5 minutes to load this one picture, this is the only one i'm going to post. the wireless internet in this hotel is not cooperating. anyhoo, i thought this was the best pic of the day .  it's my crazy pa in the middle of the interstate in the vermont mountains messing around! we crossed the interstate to get to the other side so that i can snap a shot of my guy in front of the "welcome to massachusetts sign". we're just one silly bunch of peeps!

conn, mass, new hampshire, and maine...

day 171 flickr project365
we left new york this morning and started making our way up to maine...the final destination.  one thing i'm not use to is all the toll's you have to pay for up north.  i believe we probably paid about $50.00 worth of toll charges starting from new jersey up to maine.
we drove through connecticut...
then through massachusetts...
on our way up...
we stopped at portsmouth, new hampshire's historic downtown...
and last but not least we made it to maine! yippee!
where we enjoyed a late lunch at bob's clam hut...
we had some lobster rolls, cod and chips, and a clam strip basket.  now my dad can cross maine off of his bucket list.  He and my mom need to visit minnesota and north dakota then they have visited all 50 states!
